Being a fomer BMW specilist mainly on the 5 series during the 80's. I would say that you are better off getting a second hand engine from scrap yard.
I would charge between 拢3000 to 拢4500 as there is a lot of work to do.
To replace engine I would charge 拢400
Alternator, probably 拢30 from scrappy, interchangable with most bmw parts

And one of the dangers of replacing an over 7 yr old car's head gasket is that the mechanic can make the excuse that he stripped one of the heads bolts and it will have to be drilled out, which requires more time and expense.
This happened to me. I was so pi ss ed at their incompetence, even though they showed it to me.
You always use lots of penetrating lube for this job. I should have done it myself, but didnt have the tools or time at that time.
