How difficult is it to change an alternator in a Ford Explorer?

Assuming it is my alternator that needs to be replaced (clicking noise, won't start) I'd like to do it myself. Can someone give me a rough idea of how much it might cost and possibly walk me through it. Thanks. How difficult is it to change an alternator in a Ford Explorer?
I would listen to the SVO dude. I had a 96 ranger with a bad alternator. What mine did is the battery light kept flickering while I was driving down the highway. I just put a used one in mine. If it was the alternator you could just replace the regulator on the alternator it's usually the brushes in side just get worn.

I doubt it's your alternator though. Probably a battery problem. Corroded cables can cause a lot of problems as well. You can clean them with baking soda and water. How difficult is it to change an alternator in a Ford Explorer?
It's only a hour job, but before doing that, try charging the battery, have it checked too, and clean the posts and cables real good with a wire brush. Before actually buying a alternator have the old one tested..How difficult is it to change an alternator in a Ford Explorer?
Look in your manual to see if your car has a tensioner for the serpentine belt, it will also tell you how to use the tensioner to remove your belt. If you don't have a tensioner, you will just need to take your belt off after you loosen the alternator.

On your new alternator, try and find where all the bolts seem to go in. Then find them on your installed alternator, all you have to do is pull all the bolts out, then put the new alternator in There will also be a place where the wires plug into the alternator. You will get greasy doing this, but it should take no more than an hour and a half. How difficult is it to change an alternator in a Ford Explorer?
sounds like a battery or a connection issue not alternator, clicking noise usually means one of these unless your battery light was on before it would'nt start
