How to change an alternator on a 1996 Ford Taurus GL?

Remove the serpentine belt by detensioning the tensioner pulley. It's a tight squeeze, but it can be done without loosening the engine mounts. Disconnect the connector at the alternator, and loosen and remove the eyelet for the positive battery cable. Unbolt the alternator from the bracket and remove it. Install the new alternator, and reconnect the connector and battery cable eyelet, and pull the tensioner pulley back and reinstall the belt. There should be a belt routing diagram under the hood to help you out with this step. This would also be a good time to change the serpentine belt and tensioner pulley. If you're not used to changing belts in tight spaces, this may be a better job for a good independent repair shop. How to change an alternator on a 1996 Ford Taurus GL?
At advance or auto zone you can get a repair manual for about $10

it will tell and show you step by step how to do it.I believe that will

help you more than if i tell you disconnect the battery remove the serpentine belt then the bolt that hold the alternator in place.then

disconnect the wires from the back of it.
