Ok my alternator is not charging my battery on my 1976 ford maverick. changed the alternator,the regulator and the wires that come from the two still not charging the better has been tested to its good. they said it may be Voltage Regulator Instrument custer harness? does any one know anything about this or know where i could get diagram showing me how to hook this up?Does any one know anything about Voltage Regulator Instrument custer? wiring?
Yes I can get you that thru scanning the photo copied sheets from the Mitchell Manual,,, it will give you the printed copper circuit board sheet layout labeled with all the connections...
I also can get you all the bumper to bumper diagrams for the car and the alternator/regulator testing verification info...
although most starting charging system headahe problems can be traced out to simple things like battery terminal posts adn ends not being clean enough or cables being bad or having bad connections etc.
BTW are you using the bolt on terminals by any chance that came in a 2 pack from the auto parts store that have the redd paint on one and black paint on the other???
If so that paint is plasticized and insulates against proper voltage tranfer... in 1995 I repaired a Ford Pick up in Nampa Idaho....
the Mexican owner had a Brand New Battery, New Starter, New Alternator, New Voltage Regulator %26amp; New Cables... %26amp; these New Terminals too...
It would crank over but not start...
I took the terminals off and looked where the wire sat solid paint...
then I took them and save them for the customer...
then got plain lead unpainted terminals and installed them...
vehicle now started and also charged correctly...
I charged him $12.00 parts and labor (our shop rate was $42 hr)
He gladly paid it happy truck was fixed when I tried to tell him it was just those stupid painted terminals he called me a liar and left in a huff..
